Everyday is an Opportunity

Consciously or unconsciously, intentionally or unintentionally, like it or not, we have to complete the sentence to the phrase:

Everyday is an Opportunity... not every other day, or some days, but everyday!

Here are some of the things that come to my mind when asked to complete the phrase:
Everyday is an opportunity to exercise!
Everyday is an opportunity to eat healthy!
Everyday is an opportunity to be productive!
Everyday is an opportunity to answer e-mail!
Everyday is an opportunity to give back to the community!
Everyday is an opportunity to make a difference!
Everyday is an opportunity to say I love you!
Everyday is an opportunity to count your blessings!
Everyday is an opportunity to create something new!
Everyday is an opportunity to live life to the fullest!
Everyday is an opportunity to pray and thank the Lord!

How we complete the phrase is largely dependent on our perspective or our view of the world around us and of life. If it is negative, then completing the phrase may come out to something like this:

Everyday is an opportunity to get even! Or everyday is an opportunity to get angry!

To insure that we have a positive perspective each day, we must choose to complete the phrase consciously and intentionally. We must write it out and tell someone what opportunity we are planning on seizing each day.

Opportunities can be anything that is related to the giving of our time, talents and resources, though in my mind the most important is time - we have all sorts of gadgets that we use to help free up more time so that we can do more with less time.

But we should seriously ask ourselves first, what opportunity we will be taking on, with the additional time on our hands? Otherwise, that extra time can easily be taken up by other less important things in life.

I love the movie, "Dead Poet's Society" where Robin Williams plays the character John Keating, who is an English professor in a private school who tries to teach his students to Carpe Diem - to seize the day! If you have not seen the movie, you can watch the particular scene in the movie here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQtmGcdSDAI

He says, we are "food for worms" - we will all die someday, he encourages his students to leave a legacy and live extraordinary lives by seizing the day!

Now it's your turn, what perspective do you have on life? Complete the phrase - everyday is an opportunity to...

And Carpe Diem - seize the day!
