Anniversary Reflections and Chopsticks

A few weeks from now, Jac and I will be celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary.

I shake my head and have difficulty accepting how fast the past 9 years have gone.

I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams what we have been through over the years as husband and wife...both good and bad.

The cliche that "time flies when you are having fun" seems appropriate to say at this point and its true, though someone once told me that when time passes too quickly then one is not getting enough rest and he is most probably right too (at least it feels that way over the last couple of weeks).

The pace of our lives and most of our family and friends (if you are reading this then I hope you agree) seems to be at the speed of light that we sometimes struggle to keep up relationally, let alone catch our breath or get our bearings in terms of our relationship goals.

So in achieving this milestone, I am tempted to think that we got this far because of what we did and are doing...sure we still hold hands and we still go out on dates and we still have our special time with each other despite the demands of a busy schedule and the kids.

We've worked hard on our relationship and rightly so, but as I write today I am reminded by the advise of Fr. Pete (a dear friend and the one who officiated our wedding), he told us that married life is like chopsticks - one chopstick can not work well without the other, to work well chopsticks can not be too far apart, nor too close to each other, nor can chopsticks be held too tight or too loose...but most important of all we are not to forget the hand that holds the chopsticks together and that's God.

So thank you God, for the 9 beautiful years that you have held both Jac and I together. As imperfect as we are, we celebrate 9 years of bliss because of You being the center of our marriage. Our prayer is that we will always trust and depend on You for our needs as husband and wife, as we continue in this wonderful adventure.
